The Places That Built Us and the Drinks That Bring It All Back

Some memories don’t fade. They sit quietly in the background until something: a place, a smell, a drink, pulls them right back to the front like they never left.
Driving down the freeway past where the old Speedway used to be still hits different. You can almost see the cars lined up, engines rumbling, crowds buzzing, that electric feeling of something about to happen. It’s wild how a stretch of road can still echo with the sound of race nights long gone.

Same with Kiwanis Park. If you grew up here, you remember those Round Robin softball tournaments: dust flying, gloves popping, kids running everywhere, parents yelling encouragement from lawn chairs. It was community in its purest form.

Or the old Country Store, the one that’s now Home Depot. Back then you could walk in and see animals, weird little trinkets, and things you didn’t know you wanted until you saw them. It was magic disguised as a store.

The KOA and Sportsman’s Park were easy weekend fun. Ducks, geese, water, sunshine, simple joy. No planning, no schedules, just being outside and being together.

And Skateland… that place wasn’t just a roller rink. It was Friday nights, Saturday nights, and every other night teens could convince their parents to drop them off. It was friendships, crushes, neon lights, and the soundtrack of growing up.

Even Arctic Circle brings back high school lunches, the kind of memories that feel small until you realize they were the moments that shaped you.

Places hold memories. But drinks do too.
Some drinks aren’t just drinks - they’re bookmarks in your life story.
Everclear- Welcoming Evan back from war. The kind of night where relief, pride, and celebration all mix together.
Southern Comfort- celebrating your 25th at Susie’s. A milestone, a moment, a feeling of being young and invincible.
Duckfart shots and wine- your 22nd birthday. Loud, messy, unforgettable.
Jäger bombs at Pete’s for Erick on 80’s nights. The music loud, the lights wild, the energy electric. Those nights weren’t just about the drink; they were about the fun.
Cement mixers- payback for a bad tequila shot.
And then there was Boone’s Farm plus pizza at Kiwanis Field 1. The kind of simple, perfect combination that only makes sense when you’re young, and everything feels bigger than it is. That field wasn’t just a place to hang out; it was where you met the catcher who would become the love of your life. Warm summer nights, cheap wine, shared slices, laughter drifting across the ballfields- those moments were small, but they changed everything. Boone’s Farm wasn’t fancy, but it was part of the beginning of a story you’re still living today.
And Margaritas… those have been part of everything. Birthdays. Holidays. Even your wedding. They’re woven into your life like a thread that keeps showing up in all the best chapters.

Because the right drink, like the right person, the right event, the right place, can bring back the happiest moments without warning. One sip and suddenly you’re back there, reliving it all.
That’s the beauty of memory. That’s the beauty of connection. That’s the beauty of a drink shared at the right time with the right people.
In the end, the places we grew up in and the people we shared our lives with become the landmarks of our memories. The Speedway, Kiwanis Park, Skateland, Arctic Circle- they weren’t just stops along the way; they were the backdrop of becoming who we are. And the drinks we’ve shared through the years turned into little time capsules, holding laughter, friendship, celebration, and even love. Every memory has a flavor, every chapter has a drink, and together they create a life rich with moments worth revisiting. Here’s to the places that built us, the people who made the journey meaningful, and the drinks that bring it all rushing back.
And if you didn’t know what a Duck Fart or a Cement Mixer was before… well, now you do. A Duck Fart is that goofy layered shot: Kahlúa, Bailey’s, and whiskey, that somehow tastes better than it sounds and always leads to loud laughter. A Cement Mixer is the ultimate prank shot, Bailey’s and lime juice teaming up to curdle in your mouth like wet concrete. Disgusting, hilarious, unforgettable. Cheers to learning the hard way and remembering the fun way.
Pouring joy, one event at a time. – Nina, Beyond the Bar
